Summer in Berlin: The Best Time to Go

Visitors and tourists are coming in Berlin all year round. The city has many historical sites that are available for tourists any time of the year. But to maximize the fun and pleasure of your visit, you should know the best times to go. These are called the peak times or season.

The weather and temperature shall give you a hint if your timing is good. The best time to go to Berlin is during their summer months from May to September. The temperature range from 45˚F-65˚F during these months. It is not too hot and not too cold. This is the perfect time to take a tour around the city and tourists get to wear anything the like.



You can take part in their festivals during these months and witness their rich culture. The city offers entertainment festivals during the month of May. You can watch live performances by going to see one of their operas at the Komische Oper or watch The Ballet of the German Opera Berlin perform in the Dance Festival held at Deutsche Oper. Another festival that captures the attention of visitors is the Annual Berlin Theater Event or Theatertreffen held at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.

Music and performances like concerts, operas, and German choir Festival can be enjoyed within the month of June. The Carnival of Cultures or Karneval der Kulturen in Kreuzberg consists of parades, parties, and street fairs. This month also has festivals and events for gays and lesbians like the Berlin Gay and Lesbian Festival where they gather around the Nollendorfplatz and creating a big street party. The Christopher Street Day is an event where gays and lesbians march with pride Siegessaule in Tiergarten.

The month of July is the month for their Love Parade. Thousands of visitors come to Tiergarten to witness the large carnival floats and lively shows with good performers and participants. This is also the month for the Berlin International Short Film Festival where hundreds of international competing short films and movies will be shown.

August is a busy month for the city of Berlin. This is when they hold their Beer Festival at Strasberger Platz. People can enjoy different kinds of beer sampling from hundreds of the finest breweries in the world. This festival turns the city center into a huge beer garden for beer lovers’ pleasure. To make the event more lively and festive, live music and entertainment is provided like rock, country, folk, and pop music, bands, comedy, and theater.

The ISTAF Track and Field Meet is a gathering for best athletes and sports lovers. It takes place between mid to late August at the Friedrich-Jahn-Sportpark. Most museums participate in Late Night at the Museum program or Lange Nacht der Museen. They are open to the public until midnight or later with concerts, lectures, parties, and other kinds of entertainment.

Of course musical entertainment is still an option. There’s the Heimatklange which is a worldwide music festival held at Tempodrom. The Tanz im August is an international dance event held at the Hebbel Theater. Tourists can still enjoy their operas during these months.

The famous Berlin Marathon takes place in the month of September. Thousands of runners participate in this event and run around the city starting from Brandenburg Gate and passing many different historical sites and tourist attractions.

The Literaturfestival Berlin in mid September is one of the biggest book festivals in the world. Here you can find books about many different topics from many different authors. Book lovers go to this festival to search for hard-to-find or rare book editions.

December is a good time to visit because their Christmas Markets are known worldwide for different markets all over the city selling many kinds of stuff. The Silvester in Berlin is a celebration to greet the New Year which includes a large street party held at the Brandenburg Gate and Siegessaule. You can also visit Berlin during the colder months but make sure to bring coats to keep you warm and other stuff to help you stand the cold.
