Berlin has been one of the world’s most visited cities. Thousands of visitors and tourists flock in every year to experience the cities world-famous culture, take a glimpse of the city’s rich history, see their unique architecture, and enjoy the experience of just being there.



Though the whole city is a beautiful place, there are major tourist spots that you should not miss visiting when you get the chance of going there. These destinations are the main attractions of Berlin that people all over the world want to see.

First, you should go and see places that will give you a taste of the city’s famous past. They will remind you of the city’s past glory, victory, and even the dark times.

The Brandenburg Gate is one of the major symbols of Berlin and Germany. It is the main passageway that led to the city of Berlin, Reichstag, and the Prussian monarch palace. There is an image of Victoria, Roman goddess of victory, riding a chariot drawn by four horses on top of this famous landmark. It has been a symbol of power for Germany.

The Reichstag Building is another must-see for visitors of Berlin. It was constructed for the parliament of the German Empire. It has a cupola or dome made of glass and steel on top that gives natural light inside the main building while blocking direct sunlight. Visitors can enjoy a spectacular 360-degree view of the city. The words “Dem Deutschen Volke” meaning “To the German people” were engraved on the building’s façade.

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe will bring back the bitter past. This will remind the visitors of the Jews who suffered cruelty from the Holocaust. It consists of stelae or concrete slabs with varying height and designs that are mystifying to visitors. The list of Holocaust victims can be viewed at the underground “Place of Information”.

The Charlottenburg Palace is the biggest palace in Berlin. The interior of the structure was decorated with baroque style and design. It was named Charlottenburg in memory of Sophie Charlotte, wife of King Friedrich III. The palace is open to visitors to see certain areas and attractions like the Porcelain Cabinet, formal and informal gardens surrounding the palace, the Mausoleum, the Belvedere, the art collection in Neue Pavilion, Queen Luise’s marble effigy, the Palace Theater, and the big sculpture of Friedrich Wilhelm I astride his horse.

Another historical monument tourists must see is the Siegesaule or the Berlin Victory Column. This was built to honor German victories. Tourists can see the city view from the top with the statue of Victoria the goddess of victory.

The Neue Synagogue is a glorious structure located at the center of the Jewish district Barn Quarter. This has become a symbol of the Jewish society in Berlin. It is a large structure with 3000 seating capacity.

The city of Berlin also has lots of museums and galleries that will give tourists a taste of the city’s rich culture and house extensive art collection from different famous artists, memorabilia, and artifacts that date back centuries ago. Some of these museums and galleries are The Berggruen Collection, The Museum of National History, The Gemaldegalerie, The Neue National Gallery, The Museuminsel, The German Film Museum, The Brecht Weigel Museum, and the Jewish Museum.

Tourist can also visit their churches and cathedrals that display splendid architectural designs like The Deutscher Dom or the German Cathedral, The Kaiser Wilhelm II Memorial Church, The Berliner Dom or The Berlin Cathedral, and The St. Nicholas Church.

Berlin is also famous for its parks, gardens, and other recreational areas. Some of these spots that people should consider visiting are Potsdam’s Gardens, Berlin Zoologischer Garten and Aquarium, Unter Den Linden Park, Berlin’s Botanischer Garten, Tiergarten Park, Treptower Park, and Volkspark in Friedrichshain.
